Are there comfy chairs or a sofa where you can put your legs up and have a cuddle with the kids or hubby? Is the coffee table conveniently placed to put that welcome cup of tea or keep the movie magazines handy? How about lighting? Is it harsh and bright or do you have lamps to soften up the atmosphere at night? These are just a few things to consider when refurbishing or decorating this particular room.
There is more to living room furniture than just the seating of course. You will also have some cabinets that you will use for display, holding drinks and glasses and also perhaps a bookcase, or secretaire. These items tend to be set against the walls, while your seating tends to be located within the general room space. It can be difficult to visualize your choice of seating without having the cabinets to complicate matters.
Paint your room with certain color to create good atmosphere. You can paint one wall of the room. This wall will be the center of looking and interest of your guest. You can paint the wall with darker color than the other wall. You can also contrast the color. It will create unique view for all the people there. The other thing that you can do in decorating your living room is pillow. You can throw some pillows on the rug if you have rug. You can also put pillow on your seating place like sofa. Choose pillow with attractive color. It will create a cheerful atmosphere.
One of the unique and often unnoticed qualities of color is that it can psychologically change the size of the room. Light colors make rooms feel bigger. This is why ceilings are often painted white, making them feel higher. Dark colors draw the walls of a room together, so people rarely paint rooms in very dark shades. If your living room is small, go with lighter shades. On the other hand, if you have a large living room, especially if it feels too big, a darker color can make it feel more homey and intimate.
