Decide on what your priority is; do you want to create a room with an abundance of light? Perhaps you're seeking the illusion of additional space? Have you fallen in love with a single piece of furniture, and wish to decorate the rest of the room to complement or offset this item? Do you want to decorate according to a particular genre or era? Will the colour of the walls and floor dictate the theme and ambience of your bedroom?
It's good to have a mixture of patterns and colors in your bedroom. However, there must be a balance of designs to create a holistic style. If you have too many patterns and colors in the room, it may feel confined and cluttered. The eyes will be strained from all the heavy accents. In this case, make sure you have a balance of pattern and neutral pieces. For example, if you have colorful curtains, bedding, bunk bed sets, and cushions, a neutral wall can create breathing space and balance out the color and patterns. These will accentuate the colors without becoming too overwhelming to the eyes. The breathing space will make small bedrooms warm and welcoming.
