Wooden floors in the kitchen need to have a protective coating to prevent the absorption of moisture and stains. Although most of the wood floor finishes available, today are suitable for kitchens, using a water-based clear finish is often recommended because they preserve the wood's colour and can be easily re-coated. The best water-based finish is a factory-applied, acrylic-impregnated finish that diffuses through the wood instead of just staying on the surface. Although acrylic coated floors are more expensive, they are stronger and require less maintenance. Also using satin sheen finish helps disguise dirt.
UV-cured oil finishes are not as durable as lacquers, but the benefit of an oil finish is that the damaged areas can be fixed or restored quickly. Spot repairs can be made by using sanding paper. An oil-finished hardwood floor is a suitable option for a kitchen where the spills are cleaned up immediately.
Lack of space is one complaint that many have when dealing with a small kitchen. This includes cabinet and counter space. When doing a kitchen renovation look at your kitchen and see where you can add more space. If there are appliances such as a coffee maker, juicer, etc that you do not use on a regular basic store it in a bottom cabinet to free up counter space. If there is room on top of your refrigerator store containers for your sugar, flour, etc. Build more cabinet space to the top of your cabinets.
At times when you don't want to undertake your kitchen remodel as a solo project, it is best to call in the professionals. Working with someone who knows more about kitchens than you can be advantageous. A certified kitchen designer, remodeler or contractor has more knowledge about the specifics of kitchens and all the products and features that go with. He or she is someone you can approach for advice and assistance. A good kitchen designer should listen to you and should not impose his or her own style choices on your kitchen. What's more, he or she should understand your vision of an ideal kitchen and will help you fulfil it.
